It is with great sadness that we have to say goodbye to a dear friend. John passed away in 2013 and he leaves us with incredible memories of his laughter, kindness and love for hunting and the outdoors. He will be missed. John Hall, Virginia #1 Alberta Rifle Elk in 2006 2006 Elk Hunt If you want the "Hunt of a Lifetime," Rick and Rita provide the best of everything from quarters, to food and guides... not to mention an abundance of outstanding game!! In 2006, I hunted with them for the second time and filled elk, moose, and mule deer tags. In 2004, I got a beautiful 43" moose also. My latest hunt filled my freezer with over 550 lbs of meat, and I also gave some away to my guide, Mel Hagen (The very best Elk guide in Alberta). On the second day of my hunt, Mel put us on elk. He spotted 6 cows and 4 calves coming up from a from a river bottom to a clear cut area ....and sure enough, the big herd bull was behind them about 75yds. The bull bugled twice to let the world know he was there and slowly followed the cows. We crawled about 50 yds to close the distance to just over 200 yds from the bull, and the rest is history. My beautiful 6 X 6 bull scoring, a nice 308, was one of the largest taken in the past 2-3 years. The camp had 7 other moose hunters, and we all (8) filled tags with great bulls, the largest measured about 53". I also picked up a nice 4 x 4 mule deer that weighed about 220 pounds field dressed. During the hunt, I saw 10 Black Bears, 4 of which I could have shot, but had no bear tag. One was a big sow with 3 cubs... what a delight to watch them feed and play. Hunts with Wild Kakwa are absolutely first class, as evidenced by the need to book 2-3 years in advance to get the tags and dates you want, but it is well worth the wait!! I can vouch for that.
